What Do Plant Extracts Actually Do to Your Hair

S+ Haircare products contain various natural plant extracts and their complexes. All of them are chosen with the thinking that anything that is good for our body is also good for our hair. The plant extracts we used in the products are also used in the food or pharmaceutical industry. For S+ Haircare products, we used Baikal skullcap, soybean and wheat germs, hops, amaranth seeds, Indian gooseberry, Peruvian carob, or tara, common carob seeds, and the algae of 5 different marine plants which are all rich sources of nutrients. Studies done by a plant complex manufacturer Provital show that all of these plant extracts are amazing ingredients to use in hair care products.

Anti-hairloss Extract — Baicapil

The Baicapil™ complex is a combination of three plants: the Baikal skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis), wheat (Triticum vulgare) and soybean (Glycine max sprout). They increase cell energy and activate the stem cells of your hair follicles while protecting them from ageing. The complex efficiently fights hair loss by stimulating hair growth, as well as reducing hair loss and restoring healthy appearance of the hair. The roots of Baikal skullcap contain lots of flavonoids (26 types) and the plant is widely used in Chinese medicine.

The Baicapil™ complex includes soy and wheat germs. It is valued for their high levels of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and essential minerals. Hair follicles in the growth phase utilize glucose levels at a rate twice as fast to generate cell energy, compered to follicles in the resting phase. Baicapil™ provides follicles with additional sugars, which increases the cell oxygen consumption to increase cell energy. The nutrients help hair follicles to be more active in increasing hair growth, making the hair growth phase longer. The stem cells in a hair follicle in a dormant phase are activated to produce new hair.

Through the activation of stem cells, Baicapil™ speeds up the commencement of the anagen phase, resulting in the generation of a new hair strand. This wonderful combination of plant extracts can be found in the S+ Haircare Anti Hairloss shampoo and serum for thinning hair.

The extract stimulating the growth of strong hair and maintaining the health of the scalp – Kerascalp

The Kerascalp™ complex contains Indian gooseberry, also known as amla extract, which prevents hair follicles from shrinking and ageing before any signs appear. It is used in the cosmetics industry as a moisturising component for skin and hair. In ayurvedic medicine, amla is also known as a plant that rejuvenates the hair and scalp and promotes their well-being. Amla contains lots of antioxidants, such as emblicanin, phyllantin, quercetin, gallic acid and ellagic acid. Amla also contains a high concentration of minerals, amino acids and powerful immune-boosting components. Kerascalp™ prevents the hair follicles from shrinking and weakening, giving hair shine. It balances the scalp and stimulates blood circulation, leaving weakened hair feeling invigorated and strengthened.

The vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients contained in amla contribute to a healthy scalp, strengthen hair follicles and stimulate the growth of new and healthy hair. That’s why we have added amla extract to the Gentle Gentleman shampoo and the Anti Dandruff line for men.

The gentle, deep-cleansing extract to combat hair loss – Hops

The Hops™ extract has strong antioxidant, gentle, and deep-cleansing properties that are great for combating hair loss. It’s an amazing choice to treat and balance an oily or itchy scalp thanks to their growth-stimulating and anti-seborrheic properties. For that reason, it’s also used in soothing cosmetic products. Hops, as plant extract, has powerful antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, and contains lots of flavonoids which promote hair growth. Hops extract is also used in the production of cleansing cosmetic products. Men often complain about having a sensitive or itchy scalp, so, the hops extract has also been added to the Gentle Gentleman shampoo and the shampoo and serum of the Anti Dandruff line.

The extracts of five algae moisturising and reinvigorating the hair and the scalp – Polyplant Marine

The extracts of five algae (nori, green algae, red algae, wakame, bladderwrack) in the Polyplant Marine™ complex moisturise, reinvigorate and soften hair and have a toning and stimulating effect on the scalp. In algae, the potential of nutrients is in a natural balance – it is easily absorbed, restoring nutrient deficiencies in various organs and tissues.

The use of algae in the world of cosmetics helps restore the natural balance of the skin due to their ion-based elements (oligo-elements, vitamins and chelated minerals). The plant extracts in algae absorb mineral salts, calcium, phosphorus, iodine and vitamins from the sea. These elements help to naturally restore the vitality of skin and hair, as well as improve their appearance. S+ Haircare products with abundant algae extracts offer excellent moisturizing and restoring properties. These include the Longer Hair products, the Child Proof shampoo, designed for children and sensitive scalps, the leave-in conditioner Leave In, the moisturising and restoring conditioner All In Conditioner, and the family shower gel Bodywash.

The deeply restoring extract – Ama Oil

The amaranth seed extract in the Ama Oil™ complex restores hair and forms a protective layer against excess moisture causing damage, helps holding the hairstyle in place, and removes any frizziness. Ama Oil is a plant extract derived from pendant amaranth seeds (Amaranthus caudatus), which are abundant in unsaturated fatty acids such as linoleic, palmitic, and oleic acid, along with squalene.

Squalene is a natural lipid found in hair, enhancing the biocompatibility of Ama Oil with hair, increasing its effectiveness. In addition, the amaranth seeds contain leucine, an amino acid needed for protein synthesis, and arginine, lysine, sulphur, phosphorus, calcium, iron, potassium, zinc, and vitamins E and B. Ama Oil controls excess moisture in the hair, prevents damage and helps hold the hairstyle in place even in poor weather conditions. The Longer Hair line, most efficient in restoring the hair and protecting it from damage, contains a lot of amaranth seed extract.

The hair restoring and richly nourishing extract – Soy

The soy and Peruvian carob, or tara, extracts in the Soy™ complex strengthen and restore the hair from the inside and reduce hair breakage, increasing its elasticity and shine. However, in soybean, the sulphur-containing amino acid content is higher than in other legumes. That’s why the soy protein is an amazing component when it comes to hair care.

Soy biopeptides are obtained by carefully breaking down the soy proteins. It has been proven that soy proteins provide a higher level of protection against fading hair color and hair loss than other vegetable proteins. The carob grows in Peru, in the Andes, at a height of 1,000–3,100 metres. Its flat pods contain 4–7 seeds which have powerful moisturising properties thanks to their high capacity to retain water. The S+ Haircare products containing soy and carob extracts, making it the most efficient in restoring the hair, are Longer Hair shampoo and serum and the S+ Haircare conditioners.

The extract deeply restoring weakened and damaged hair – Keratrix

Keratrix™ is a paraben-free complex of carob peptides and amino acids that restores weak and damaged hair fibres by boosting the innermost layer of the hair – the cortex – with natural nutrients. It is the plant extract that strengthens the hair and protects it from becoming brittle. It makes the hair more resilient and stronger, and protected from mechanical, chemical and heat damage. In addition, Keratrix™ neutralises static electricity. That helps to stabilise the peptide chains and thus making the hair easier to handle.

The carob is a strong and high evergreen tree that grows in the southern Mediterranean region and the Middle East. Its hard large pods are separated inside by sugary partitions. The sweet-tasting fruit has traditionally been used as animal feed. Due to the uniform weight of the seeds, the carob became a unit of measurement, later called a carat in the jewellery industry.

The hydrolysis of carob results in three amino acids which account for over 47% of the proteins: glutamic acid, arginine and aspartic acid. Essential amino acids form up to 48% and sulphur amino acids (such as methionine and cystine) account for up to 3%.

The carob extract contained in the hair growth-stimulating shampoo and serum of the Longer Hair line and in the restoring and moisturising conditioner All In Hydrating Conditioner helps take care of and restore the hair.
