Kaisa Selde is an actress who knows that decisions about her hair are often made by other people: directors, make-up artists, costume designers. Her hair is part of her work, but it’s also part of who she is. And sometimes that means that after a three-hour performance in which she has given it everything she has, the only feedback she gets is: “Oh, your curls looked so beautiful.”
We asked Kaisa how she takes care of her hair, what her biggest challenges have been, and what she has learned since she started using S+ Haircare products. Kaisa has been using S+ Haircare products for 3 years now.
How much did you think about what was inside your hair care products before discovering S+ Haircare?
Since I hit the genetic jackpot when it comes to hair, I never cared much about which products I used to wash or care for it. I’ve practically never bought body or hair care products from the grocery store, and my logic was that if a product is more expensive, it must be better both for me and for the environment. But that isn’t necessarily the case at all.
Many women say their hair is part of their identity. Do you feel the same way, and has that influenced how consciously you choose your hair care?
It cuts both ways. Of course it’s very flattering to get compliments on my hair, but on the other hand it’s a bit sad when I’ve given everything I have on stage and the only feedback I get is: “Oh, your curls looked so beautiful.”
What’s one thing you didn’t know about hair care before trying S+ Haircare that now seems completely obvious?
I love travelling, especially to warm and sunny places, but after a trip my hair is often in a pretty sad state. Thanks to S+ Haircare, I now know that the scalp dryness that comes with travelling can be treated with a scalp serum – it’s incredibly effective.
Being an actress means other people often decide what happens to your hair: make-up artists, directors, costume designers. Have there been moments when you’ve had to stand up for your hair and say, “We’re not doing that”?
As a rule, I trust the make-up artist and hairdresser completely, because their work is their creation. There’s only been one situation where I said we could maybe come up with a different solution. In one production, my whole head was backcombed and lacquered, and since there are often several performances in a row, at some point combing my hair out became really difficult and painful. Luckily I had short hair at the time, but still. I put up with it for a few months, then plucked up the courage and asked them to find another solution.
Do you have a pro tip for getting the most out of S+ Haircare products?
The leave-in spray works really well as a substitute for hairspray, because it removes static electricity and tames flyaways for a while. It won’t hold a proper updo – that’s not what it’s meant for – but for everyday finishing touches it’s perfect.
Which three words best describe S+ Haircare products for you?
Light, gentle, effective.
Have you received feedback about your hair from fellow actors or fans since using S+ Haircare?
A stage partner once complimented me on how good my hair smells 🙂
How much time do you actually spend on your hair each day? Has that changed over the years?
I try to spend as little time on my hair as possible. In my world, for example, it’s completely fine to walk around with wet hair instead of spending half an hour blow-drying it. On the other hand, when I do have time to style my hair, I enjoy experimenting, and when it turns out well it puts me in a really good mood.
